For this piece I have used a variation on the Japanese technique of
Kintsugi. Kintsugi originated in the 15th Century in Japan when ceramicists mended a tea bowl belonging to the Shogun in line with the aesthetics of wabi-sabi, using lacquer and gold to highlight the cracks.
It is a highly prized art form in Japan which builds on the idea that by embracing flaws and imperfections, the beauty of the piece is enhanced.
